Crawford Broadcasting’s Ed Dulaney loves his Omnia audio processors. So
when Crawford decided to
broadcast ESPN in HD Radio on AM 560/KLZ in Denver, Omnia was the only
possible choice.
Five Omnia-5EX audio processors were recently installed at Crawford’s
Denver cluster, with plans to add
two additional units in 2006 as a part of the company’s transition to
digital radio.
Ed Dulaney, Chief Engineer for the Colorado Region, was won over by
Omnia for AM when he first
upgraded his stations with a number of Omnia-3AM audio processors in
2004. “We had a great experience
with those Omnia-3’s. Omnia listened to our input and helped us to make
them sound just the way we
wanted. Upgrading to the Omnia-5EX HD+AM was the next logical step, as
we were planning on
transitioning to HD Radio.”
People love the sound of the Omnia-5EX. Dulaney comments, “Everyone that
has heard our AM HD Radio
signal says it sounds as good or better than FM!”
“We give lots of props to our clients,” says Frank Foti, President of
Omnia Audio. “They tell us that
Omnia-5EX is the best-sounding AM box ever. But some of the biggest
flamethrower AM stations around
have worked with us, constantly helping us find new ways to make AM
sound big, ballsy and most of all,
clean — so they really deserve the credit. Some people thought AM was
dead… how wrong were they?”
Omnia-5EX HD+AM, the world’s first HD Radio & DAB-ready audio processor
for AM broadcasters,
incorporates a unique dual processing structure that routes processed
audio from the multiband mixer
section to separate, simultaneous output stages — the first optimized
for conventional AM broadcasts, the
second for HD Radio & DAB, webcasting, satellite and similar digital
distribution networks. Features
include a two-band AGC, plus wideband AGC and five-band limiter to help
restore warmth, clarity and
detail to AM broadcasts; the HD Radio/DAB section features Omnia’s
unique program-adaptive Look-
Ahead limiter, plus adjustable low-pass filtering and high-shelf EQ.
Listening to Ed Dulaney, it’s clear he’s a fan of Omnia. “I’ve worked
with a number of processors...I can
honestly say that no other processor gives you as much control over your
sound as the Omnia-5EX! It’s a
dangerous thing to have this much power!”
