Presets

March 2009, at The Netherlands Processing Freak day, Cornelius Gould - Omnia's very own Audio Processing R&D Engineer - announced that he had new Omnia 6EX / EXi HD+FM presets that match some of the characteristics achieved in the Omnia ONE audio processor based on his well known "CG Series" algorithm tweaks. If you liked what you heard with the new Omnia ONE CG Presets, then these version 2 presets for the Omnia 6EX / EXi HD+FM will make you very happy as well!

Note: Do not keep more than 20 customized user presets stored onto the Omnia 6EX / EXi HD+FM at any time. Attempting to store more than 20 user customized presets could result in card corruption. The way to check this and to take action, go to the Omnia6 menu, then navigate to preset -> modify -> and from there you can delete all unused user defined presets.

    CG Smooth

This is Cornelius' original "Smooth" Omnia 6EXi preset. This preset is remarkably transparent, and perfect for formats where high TSL / or the desire to maintain sonic integrity of the program material while still maintaining a decent amount of loudness. Great for Jazz, Smooth Jazz, Classical, Non Com Triple A, etc.

    Vinyl Open A

Vinyl Open A is a "fuller" sounding version of Vinyl Open. Great for stations that are mainly talk. By default, the preset is on the softer side when used on the Omnia 6EXi. For more loudness, you may increase the Clipper Drive. You may also adjust the IMD Tune control in the clipper section too. Higher numbered settings creates a 'softer clipping sound". These two controls determine the loudness vs. distortion trade-off.

In the Omnia 6EX, adjust the Clipper Drive for the best loudness vs. distortion trade-off for your format.

    CG NPR Pure

CG NPR Pure is designed for those needing a pure sounding preset that basically passes program bus quality audio to the airwaves. It isn't loud, but makes for a great starting point to build up a pure sounding preset for your station. Be sure to check out "VinylOpen" for a preset starting point for those looking for another option to start from.

    Vinyl Open

Vinyl Open is a new preset in the "Vinyl" series that Cornelius has been developing. This one has more "oomph" than "CG NPR Pure" and is another excellent starting point for those looking for a preset that retains a lot of the qualities of "openess".

    Vinyl Smooth

This is a version of the "Vinyl" preset that takes advantage of the Omnia 6EXi LoIMD clipper stage. If you need additional distortion control, and have an Omnia6EXi, try this version of "Vinyl"

    CG Warm

CG Warm - This is a new preset that is tuned to give a "warm" sound. I am noticing many broadcasters moving away from the "shrill" or "skreechy" sound of radio in recent years, wanting to get back to a "warmer" sound or tone on - air. This preset tunes the Omnia 6EX / 6EXi for that kind of sound. Great starting point for any format needing a warm sound!

    Vinyl

Vinyl is a preset that is a reminder of the days when we played vinyl live on air, and that warm sound you get as a result! Based on the CG Warm preset, but with some radical changes that give a unique tone. This preset is fully compatable with both the Omnia 6EX, and EXi processors. This is the preferred "Vinyl" preset for Omnia 6ex users, however.

    CG Mighty 80s

The CG Mighty 80's preset is modeled after the version created for the Omnia ONE processor. it is an "over the top" preset created for fun to emulate the hyper-compressed sound of 1980's top 40 radio. The main difference here? The Omnia ONE has four bands of processing with the Omnia6 you have 5 and 6 bands of power. Lets see what the 80's would have sounded like with this kind of power behind it! Since releasing the version for the Omnia ONE, we have found there are quite a few operators out there who have been trying to emulate this sound with their digital processors.

Now the option is here for the Omnia 6EX / EXi HD+FM!

    Have fun!
